As I woke to rain hitting the window I pondered about the day ahead. It dawned on me, the day ahead was not my day, a wedding never is. No matter what would happen in my life, this day is theirs, Maria and Dean had entrusted me to look after their photography so today nothing else would matter.
As it happened the rain eased off, thankfully and I made my way to meet the boys. I was nicely surprised to see they were almost ready for me, the house was full of excitement with family and friends arriving in their glad rags, one by one. Trish and Frank walked in and without having to enquire I knew that smile could only come from the proudest of mammies. Dean was over the moon with the resent from Maria, beaming from ear to ear and I quickly realised who my joker of the day would be. This was a surprisingly easy one, as anyone who knows me will openly tell, I am the world's worst with names but not today, we had Dean the groom, I always remember the groom and Mark and Derek along with the 2 Kev's. Having brothers and a husband with the same names I knew I would not forget so my day started off pretty well.
Heading off to the girls the rain returned, I said my silent prayer that it would stay away when I needed it to and sure enough it stopped temporarily as I pulled up to the house. Wow was I taken aback with the house. I love all things pretty and I have to hand it to the mother of the bride, Barbra, her house is stunning, Christy I am sure you helped out too so well done on doing what you were told in that regard. Few people realise that often a favourite colour of photographers is grey so I was in my element, every colour and subject pops with a grey backdrop and the whole house was so stylishly done I just knew my photos here would be great. Again everyone was almost ready thanks to the amazing hair and makeup teams, Joanne, Maria's sister and bridesmaid was hard at work doing hair, the girls all looked stunning and were rearing to go. Maria and Dean's beautiful girls, Caitlyn and Lacey got into their dresses along with their cousins, filled with excitement and looking angelic.
First setting my eyes on the dress, I was in awe, stunningly stylish and unique I was almost trying to not take it in completely until Maria was in it, all laced up. She was a vision, the excitement and the joy, there were literally no nerves, and sure why would there be after so many years together, herself and Dean are an amazing couple.
Thankfully by the time we arrived at the hotel the rain had gone and the skies were blue. As the day went on this gorgeous couple could do nothing but remind me of how awesome they are, it's not in what people say, not even always about how they look, it's about the off the cuff, natural interactions, not only with each other but with their families too. Every face was filled with pure joy, sheer happiness at being together and treasuring these moments. It is but one day, limited to those few hours of moments and those moments are the most important, not the time spent posing, which of course is important but should never take away from the enjoyment of the day. And so we shot outside, not far from the door yet we took just 47 minutes from the day to cover our entire session ensuring plenty of time was spent with their gorgeous girls and lovely if slightly crazy guests.
As I saw the Manilla Strings boys walk towards the entrance all I could do was a little dance of joy. There are few things in this world that make me dance for joy but this trio of awesomeness do it, EVERYTIME! Boys, I am not crazy, I am just crazy in love with what you do to a wedding! These boys are out of this world, they breed happiness and smiles, I'm sure Maria and Dean were super grateful to Anita and Seamus and Joanne and Stuart for the most thoughtful gift there could be for a wedding, there really is nothing out there to kick off a celebration the way these guys do! And kick it off they did. After Mark's awesome speech, that had me in fits of laughter and tears (Mark I really couldn't tell you were nervous) everyone was ready to party, but before they did was one more surprise to make me do a little dance of joy, Greg from Pro DJ's. Greg is AWESOME, and I really do mean it, entertainment is such a huge part of the day and good entertainment makes my job easier and quicker. Greg had that dance floor hopping from the get go, so much so that just 30 minutes later I was finished, with enough time to head on out myself and raise a glass to Maria and Dean.
To you, the Kinsella family, (Barbra, just in case you forget that's Maria, Dean and the kids), congratulations on your wedding but even more so, congratulations on all you have. You have an amazing family, a beautiful home, beautiful kids, an inspirational relationship, not only with each other but with all of those around you. I wish you a life of laughter and joy, continuous celebration in all you have and lastly but not least, the support of one another for the rest of your lives. Thank you so much for allowing me to share your story and be part of your day.
