Some people wait their whole lives for love but the truth is love is easy. Love comes to you at times when you least expect it but it is up to you to nurture it once you find it. The loving part is the easy part, like breathing, but maintaining a relationship takes work and commitment. For many getting married is that commitment but for Erica and Asa they found that commitment long before they finally married having first found the ability to love everything about each other.
Having met Asa at 14 years old, he was Erica's first and only boyfriend. Some would say this is down to luck, I would say this is down to them. Both Erica and Asa show a huge commitment to each other, their children and their families. A willingness to accept what life throws at them and deal with it together. Strength and courage has ensured that over the years their love has grown and deepened. Asa looks at Erica like she is the only woman in the world, beaming with pride and happiness. Through the day it was hard not to notice that Erica treated Asa like he was another part of her, finding his hand without looking, leaning on his shoulder like it was the most comfortable pillow in the world, almost knowing his next move. They laughed and smiled in unison whilst also feeling their sorrows together, in the same moments like their hearts beat as one.
In a sad twist of fate Erica had lost her father the day before, a heart breaking occurrence at any stage, even more so now. Without sharing too much of a personal tragedy I mention this because of what it says about quite possibly the strongest couple I have ever had the pleasure of coming across. Despite the pain and anguish in their lives, Erica, Asa and their whole families continued with the day and enjoyed every aspect possible. This was a celebration of them, their 20 years, their 3 beautiful children, their love, their commitment, their lives. Within this difficult time they found the strength, through their support of each other and the support from friends and family to continue with the day. I have the highest respect for this entire family in their ability to unite and support each other in the way that they have. I commend you all and I thank you for letting me witness your bravery and strength, above all, Erica and Asa I thank you for showing me your version of love, the truest, most honest and deserved love a person can have. I cannot offer you any advice, you have written the book but I can say that together you are an inspiration to all of those around you so maybe every once in a while you might take a moment to glance in each others direction and remember that. Be proud of who you are and what you have because you sure as hell deserve it.
All of my love,
