She said she would never get married, never have a big wedding, her parents were convinced this day would never be but then Fiona hadn't met Mick. He must be a man of miracles though as now, 3 kids later, Fiona was about to walk down the aisle on a day filled with all the bells and whistles.
It was a crisp January morning when I walked into the salon, the girls were excitedly chatting away with hairdressers and makeup artists busy at work. No nerves, no apprehension just laughter and excitement. Fiona had everything well planned to ensure her morning went smoothly and she would have time to spend with her handsome little men before the ceremony. Back at the hotel there was no fuss, just pure relaxation.
Mick arrived with his 3 daughters who were to stand by his side throughout the day, all eager to quickly get ready for the ceremony. Just before the ceremony was to start I made my way to the top of the room, I pat Mick on the shoulder and wished him luck but was delighted to hear his response, 'why is everyone wishing me luck today, I don't need luck'. And that he didn't, he has it all. With 6 children between them each member played a part in the ceremony, showing me that Fiona and Mick are not just about each other, family is of the utmost importance to them, as it should be and will always be. As his daughter spoke I could recognise the amount of respect his children have for Mick, they enjoy their time spent with him and respect Fiona hugely and of course, love their 3 little brothers immensely. During the speeches there were moments of emotional tears, laughter and fun, even the completely unexpected song sung by the family priest who agreed to bless their civil ceremony.
I left Finnstown Castle that evening with a room full of people dancing the night away, a bride beaming from ear to ear, a groom content that now he has it all and it confirmed to me something I have been thinking for quite some time. Maybe it's the reaching mid 30's that has done it to me but now I look forward to growing old, I see in Fiona and Mick the same, not just love but contentment, a happiness that has them grounded, a love for time spent together and the sheer bliss of life that leaves them with no want more than to enjoy their lives together.
As I have said, Mick has it all with Fiona and his children. Fiona undoubtedly, considering she had the wedding she swore she never would, is head over heels in love with her husband. There are no words of wisdom from me that they have not thought of for themselves so for your future, Fiona and Mick, I wish you many more times together with your families, many more celebrations and I wish all of your friends and family a happiness just as yours.
All of my love,
